Coming to St Joseph's
We welcome enquiries from all prospective families in the area. We are a Catholic school, however, there are spaces available to non-Catholic families at times, so making an appointment to speak with the Principal is recommended. We boast small class sizes and our special character is reflected in the way our students interact with each other. Our values of Faith, Honesty, Aroha, and Respect are also important to us and are intrinsic elements to teaching and learning programmes at St Joseph's.
Our junior classroom (Years 0-3) is situated in a quiet spot in our school in the newest of our classrooms. We are well equipped with a Smart TV, iPads, dress ups, construction equipment, creative resources, large space, and text rich environment. These ensure our students are engaged and different interests are catered for. The junior teacher is trained and qualified in both early childhood and primary education, and possesses a thorough understanding of the needs of young children when transitioning from one institution to the other.
Little Joes
Little Joes is a programme for 4 year olds, which assists in the transition process. If you are interested in your child experiencing what it is like at St Joseph's as a new entrant, this is a good way for them to become accustomed to school life while still at kindergarten or pre-school. They would quite possibly also re-acquaint themselves with former classmates who have moved on to school.
We aim to make the smoothest transition possible from early childhood education into primary through an adapted programme and regular visits to our local centres. With our small class sizes, we are able to extend our more able students in literacy and mathematics.
